Developer Communities

If you've got a question or hit a snag, our developer communities are the best places to get answers from other Matter developers:

  • Stack Overflow For help with general development questions - find answers from the Matter developer community under the google-smart-home tag.
  • Google Nest Community Join the Google Nest Community for information.

Google Home feedback

Filing feedback from the Google Home app (GHA) and/or Hubs is one of the simplest ways to provide actionable data for your issue. We recommend taking the following steps to ensure your feedback report is as complete as possible.

Android prerequisite

If testing with an Android device, complete the following:

For Pixel devices, go to Settings > Security & privacy > More privacy settings > Usage & diagnostics and enable Usage & diagnostics.

For Samsung devices, go to Settings > Privacy, scroll to Google and enable Usage & diagnostics.

For other Android devices, check for Google Usage & diagnostics in relevant sections of your settings app.

For all Android devices, increase the log buffer sizes and verbosity of Google Play services logging via adb.

Google Home prerequisite

This setting applies to both the Android and iOS GHA.

  1. Navigate to the Devices tab of the main screen.
  2. For each Nest Hub device in your home:
    1. Long press the device tile.
    2. Navigate to settings by tapping on the gear icon in the upper right.
    3. Select Recognition & sharing.
    4. Ensure Send device usage data and crash reports to Google is toggled on.

Send feedback

We recommend filing feedback immediately upon reproducing the issue.

  1. Open the GHA.
  2. Tap on your account icon in the upper right.
  3. Select Feedback.
  4. Select GHA.
  5. Allow Play services to access all device logs.
  6. Include a unique phrase in your feedback and note it for later.
  7. Briefly explain the issue and send.

In addition to the instructions above, Nest WiFi Pro users should also:

  1. Open the GHA.
  2. Tap on your account icon in the upper right.
  3. Select Feedback.
  4. Select Nest WiFi Pro.
  5. Allow Play services to access all device logs.
  6. Re-use the same descriptive message from the GHA report and send.

Report a bug or request new features

Before filing a new issue or feature request, please check to see if there is a preexisting open issue that applies.

What to include in your bug

Include the following details in issue descriptions:

  • Steps to reproduce the issue.
    • If testing against an SDK example, share the example and SDK commit.
  • Expected behavior and observed behavior.
  • From all your trials, how many times have you reproduced the issue?
  • When relevant, screenshots or videos.
  • If filing feedback, you may include the unique phrase entered in your feedback in the bug description. Note that this may allow for the association of data in your feedback report to your bug.
